Dual Phase Extrusion Development
Electric Materials has developed patent-pending methodologies to extrude dual phase (liquid cores that are fully contained in solid metal) billets of varying metallurgical composition. Our technology makes it possible to create monolithic extrusions, of varying shapes, with significantly different properties over the cross-section of the extruded profile. In addition to this "micro-metallurgy" capability, our process can be manupulated to create un-alloyed metallic matrixes within the profile. These matrixes are capable of supporting both metallic and non-metallic constituents through the extruding and finishing processes.
Both physical and electrical properties can be modified through this methodology and the internal geometry of the modified zones can be changed in shape, size, and character.
Possible applications could include:
Power transmission including buses, wire, and cabling
Electrical switchgear and breaker designs
Motor designs (both AC and DC)
Structural components and fasteners
Miniaturization of existing components through specific property enhancements
